This week we mainly made main wings and fuselage-wing connection parts. As you can see from the picture, the framework of main wings was completed on Thursday. Fuselage-wing connection parts had been cut by a laser cutter, so we only had to attach it to main wings, but an unhappy incident happened while working on Friday. When we attached it to main wings and tried to pass a fuselage carbon pipe through it, we found those holes are out of position. So, we tried to detach it to reattach it, but then we broke the leading edge of main wings… We fixed it, but we worried how this damage affects the flight performance. The incident cannot be helped, we have to work carefully because a lot of time does not remain until the day of test flight.
Remaining work are mainly 1)pasting wing papers on main wings, 2)reattaching fuselage-wing connection parts to main wings, 3)attaching main wings and stabilizers to fuselage pipe, 4)attaching a front wheel and back leg to fuselage pipe, 5)attaching a propeller, batteries, servos, and electronic circuit card for auto pilot.
For remaining few weeks, there are a lot of things to do, but we will do our best and complete making UMINEKO (the name of our aircraft).

Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics 今週は主に主翼の骨組みと翼胴結合部の製作を行いました。主翼は写真のとおり、木曜日にやっと骨組みが完成しました。翼胴結合部もレーザーカッターでの切り出しが終わっていたので、あとは主翼に取り付けるだけとなっていたのですが、金曜日の作業中に悲しい事故が起こってしまいました。翼胴結合部を主翼に取り付けた後、パイプを通そうとしたところ、穴がわずかにずれており、取り付けなおすために翼胴結合部を外そうとしていたところ、主翼の後縁が大きく破損してしまったのです。一応修復はできたのですが、実際の飛行時の強度にどう影響が出てくるのか不安なところです。事故は仕方のないことですが、飛行試験まであまり時間がないので日々注意して作業を行っていきたいと思います。
残りの作業は、大まかに1）主翼の翼紙の貼り付け、2）翼胴結合部の取り付け、3）主翼と尾翼の胴体パイプへの取り付け、4）前輪、後脚の取り付け5）プロペラ、バッテリー、サーボ、また自動操縦のための基盤などの取り付けです。あと数週間、やることはかなり多いですが、頑張ってUMINEKOを完成させたいと思います。
