At the 76th Komaba Festival, held from November 22 to 24, 2025, the Faculty of Engineering’s Public Relations Office presented an exhibition titled “Learn More about the Faculty of Engineering” organized primarily by student assistants. The exhibition showcased the appeal of engineering and student life in the Faculty of Engineering and attracted more than 1,000 visitors.

Visitors came not only from the Tokyo metropolitan area but from across Japan and even overseas. More than half were junior and senior high school students and their parents. Many expressed interest in applying to the University of Tokyo or said they hoped the exhibition would help them make decisions about their future academic paths. Some visitors also came to gain a better understanding of what exactly is studied in the Faculty of Engineering.

The main exhibition featured posters introducing all 16 departments of the Faculty of Engineering, along with a crossword puzzle based on keywords from the posters. This popular attraction has been held since last year, and once again many visitors were seen studying the posters with crossword sheets in hand. In particular, the section introducing student life—which displayed information such as sample class schedules—was well received by students planning to take the University of Tokyo’s entrance examinations. They shared comments such as: “I can now clearly picture what life will be like after enrolling,” “I understand the differences between departments,” and “It was fun learning through a quiz format.” Some visitors also remarked that they were “surprised by how many diverse departments there are,” noting the breadth of the Faculty of Engineering.

A consultation corner staffed by current engineering students was set up at the venue, where visitors could ask questions about their academic path, preparation for the entrance exams, and many other topics. Numerous questions were also asked around the poster displays, demonstrating the high level of interest amongst the visitors. Many commented that “it was great to hear directly from current students” and that “their explanations were very clear.” Having student assistants from a variety of departments and backgrounds helped increase overall visitor satisfaction.

In addition, interview articles and the PR magazine Ttime!—all researched and written by student assistants—were on display. Participatory poster activities, answered using sticky notes and stickers, were also set up. The poster titled “Which department would you choose?” was particularly popular, with many visitors discussing their options as they selected their answers.

As with last year, the exhibition was very well received by a large number of visitors. On the other hand, some pointed out that “the content may be too difficult for younger children,” raising the need for more child-friendly elements in future exhibitions. Based on this year’s experience, we hope to continue developing projects—through open campus events and university festivals—that help convey the appeal of engineering and student life in the Faculty of Engineering to an even wider audience.
