　As an activity of “Aviation System International Project Based Learning” class, we visit companies that play important roles in the aviation industry in and outside of Japan and experience the global nature of the aviation industry. Today we visited Dassault Systèmes K.K., which is located in Osaki, to get to know more about the company and its relationship to Japan.

　Dassault Systèmes is a worldwide software company. Its head office is in France. This company is famous for the 3D-CAD “CATIA®”. It was developed with the desire of eliminating 2D draft in the design phase, and it can aid aircraft design and developing by its advanced 3D models. Many aircraft manufacturers around the world are developing their aircrafts using CATIA and it is a necessary tool for them today.

　During this visit, we saw the demonstrations of the newest version of CATIA. In CATIA, you can inspect its 3D models from any point of view, and 2D connection between many pipes and even 3D spatial arrangement can be checked instantly. Furthermore, using its 3D models, CATIA can make a dynamic simulation and can even manage the whole developing process. I was surprised to know that one CAD software can aid aircraft developing from the beginning to the end.

　We tend to consider aircraft manufacturers and airlines as main players in the aviation industry. However, I found companies aiding the whole aircraft development phase, such as Dassault Systèmes, are necessary because of its huge impact on this industry.We greatly appreciate Dassault Systèmes K.K. .
　我々は「航空システム国際PBL」講義の一環として、グローバルな航空産業を体験することを目的に国内外の航空産業に携わっている会社を訪問していきます。今回は、東京都品川区大崎にあるダッソー・システムズ株式会社に訪問させていただきました。

　ダッソー・システムズはフランスに本社を持つ世界的なソフトウェア会社であり、航空産業との関わりは、主に3D-CAD「CATIA®」を通して航空機メーカーの設計開発を支援していることにあります。「設計の現場から２次元の図面を排する」という考えのもとに開発されたCATIAは世界の航空機メーカーで使用され、今や航空機の設計開発には無くてはならないシステムとなっています。

　今回の訪問では、このCATIAの最新バージョンを実際に操作しながら説明をしていただきました。CATIA上の3Dモデルはあらゆる角度から見ることができ、配管などの２次元的なつながりや３次元的な空間配置もクリック１つですぐ検証することが可能です。更に、3Dモデルの作成にとどまらず、プロジェクト管理やシミュレーションなども行うことができ、設計開発の上流から下流までを１つのCAD上で支援できるということが分かり、大変驚きました。

　航空産業というと機体メーカーやエアラインばかりを想像してしまいがちですが、大規模な産業だからこそ、 設計開発を包括的に支援するダッソー・システムズのような会社がなくてはならないことが分かりました。今回はお忙しい中我々の為に説明をしてくださり、本当にありがとうございました。
